The TAP-Chicago Typhoon is racing in the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Race on Saturday, August 23rd and we have a few spaces in the boat! The Superior race is really cool, probably the best in the Midwest. There are 100+ teams, a parade, fireworks, concert, and other good stuff. Since it’s in Wisconsin, there will be the opportunity to add on a fun activity Sunday like tubing, white water rafting, or kayaking!
The plan now is to travel up to Superior Friday afternoon or evening, possibly stopping for dinner in Madison, stay overnight, and race Saturday morning. People can head back Sunday morning or do something fun. Everyone going will split gas, hotel, etc. Previous paddling experience is not required if you can attend the team practice on Sunday, August 17th at 11 am.
About us: we are a friendly group of young professionals in our 20s and 30s from all different backgrounds. Most, but not all of us, are Asian American and some of us are Taiwanese American. Most of us are new to dragon boat this season, but we have a few members who have paddled in high school, college, or previous years. We consider ourselves a recreational-level team, we practice a few times every season. Our goals for the season are better fitness, improved times, and most importantly, fun!
