We are excited to present the 13th Annual Passport to Taiwan Festival, the largest outdoor celebration of Taiwanese American Heritage Week in the US! Come join us at Union Square on Sunday, May 25th, from 12pm to 5pm, for an afternoon of exciting performances, astonishing displays of Taiwanese arts & crafts, informative exhibitions, and of course delicious food!

This year, we are particularly excited to display Taiwan’s cultural heritage through two featured arts troupes from Taiwan. The first one is Takao Run, an award-winning folk arts group hailing from Kaohsiung whose performances range from soulful traditional song and dance to upbeat pop-infused opera and techno Santaizi. Secondly, PATAS, a group of performers of the Atayal tribe dedicated to the preservation of their heritage and the “Gaya” way of teaching, will share with us the Atayal culture through performances involving a variety of dance movements, songs, and percussion, such as a weaving dance, a powerful and heroic warrior dance, and a dance of romantic courtship accompanied by mouth harp (Lubuw). The stage program is rounded out by performances of two exciting bands from Taiwan: Sun of Morning, and OVDS.

Off stage, the “Made in Taiwan” exhibit will, in honor of NYC’s Bike Month, feature products made by companies and manufacturers in the bike industry of Taiwan. Come see why Taiwan is called the “Bicycle Kingdom!” Then, explore some high class Taiwanese cuisine in the adjacent booth where four award-wining Taiwanese chefs will display their skills and provide samples of their cooking!

As you walk around the site, explore Taiwanese arts & crafts, get information about traveling to and around Taiwan, or find out more about the impact made in the US and in NYC by Taiwanese Americans. And of course, there will be plenty of traditional Taiwanese night market food and drink items, made by members of our community as well as established NYC eateries such as APou, TKettle, Shiny Tea, CoCo, and Come Buy.

Finally, don’t forget to enter our fundraiser raffle for a chance to win a roundtrip ticket to Taiwan on China Airlines, one of the Taiwanese bicycles displayed in our “Made in Taiwan” exhibit, or one of many other prizes.

We hope to see you at Union Square at NYC’s biggest celebration of Taiwanese and Taiwanese American Heritage!
