Taiwan Cinema in Chicago throughout August

From August 6 through 31, 2011, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, in partnership with the Gene Siskel Film Center, will present Taiwan Cinema: Old, New and Newer, a series of eight films representing one of the most important modern national cinemas.

The older films will be presented in new digital restorations and newer films also benefit from Taiwan’s Government Information Office’s investment of restoration and English subtitles. The series highlights the highly acclaimed Taiwan New Cinema movement of the 1980s and features the work of some of Taiwan’s great film directors from that period and late, including Edward Yang, Tsai Ming-liang and Hou Hsaio-hsien, to name a few.

On Monday August 8th there will be an Opening Reception at 7:00PM, followed by the screening of In Our Time.
