Ever wondered where the Taiwanese people came from originally? Well, Dr. Ching-chih Chen has the answer. He will reveal all on August 24 at TAP-SD’s fourth Tuesday of the month event.

The topic Dr. Chen will discuss is:

Journey of Mankind and their arrival in Taiwan

(1) Here are questions that the world’s researchers have tried to answer: Who were our ancestors? From where did they come? If we came out of Africa, what factors governed our migration routes? And when?

(2) Here are questions that Taiwanese researchers and others have tried to answer: How did the early men arrive in Taiwan (an island?)? When? What were their relations with people in the Asian continent and Pacific Islands?

(3) Over the last few decades, researchers have come up with pretty good answers to the above questions and Dr. Chen will discuss their findings.

Dr. Chen is uniquely qualified to discuss this topic. Dr. Chen has a B.A. in Political Science from Tunghai University, Taiwan. A masters in East Asian Studies from Harvard University. A Ph.D. in History also from Harvard University. After all that education, Dr. Chen served as a professor of east Asian history at the Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville from 1969-2001.

The discussion will last approximately 45 minutes. After the talk, the group is invited to mingle and socialize over dinner at a local restaurant.
