Cellist Stephanie Lai a Finalist for YouTube Symphony Orchestra

Taiwanese American cellist Stephanie Lai has been selected amongst thousands of musicians around the world as a finalist for the YouTube Symphony Orchestra! The ensemble is a global endeavor devoted to sharing the love of music and celebrating humanity’s vast creative diversity.

Here’s all you need to do to show your support:

2. If you like what you hear, click the “Vote for this Video” button once a day until Dec. 17, 11:59:59 pm (EST).

Please feel free to watch the other finalists’ great videos. You may vote once a day per person, so please vote for other musicians who you think deserve to play in an international orchestra that aims to bring the creative multimedia and collaborative qualities of YouTube into the classical music world. The winners will be announced on YouTube on January 11, 2011, and they will participate in a week-long summit of rehearsals, concerts, and master classes at the Sydney Opera House in March 2011, culminating in a performance conducted by renowned maestro Michael Tilson Thomas.

We know many of you Taiwanese Americans have had some experience in music (whether you liked it or not) but here’s someone in our community who has taken her talent and love for music a long way! So, show your support for this talented Taiwanese American musician!

Dear family, friends, and supporters,

Thank you for voting for my audition video for YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011! I am thrilled and honored to tell you that I will be performing in Sydney Opera House this March! I am deeply grateful for your helping to make my dream come true.

101 amazing musicians — who range in age from 14 to 49 and hail from more than 30 countries — have been selected to join the orchestra. You can learn fun facts about the winners on the YouTube Symphony channel. The artists will come together beginning on March 14 to prepare for a final performance on March 20, which will be streamed live to the world on YouTube. In the meantime, you are warmly invited to tune into the YouTube Symphony channel and join the musicians as we begin our creative journey to Sydney.
