November 21, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
MediaRites presents a 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Peabody-winning film Mei Mei, A Daughter’s Song
Doors open 7:30pm with live music by the Orchid and Bamboo Ensemble and a beautiful art installation by artist Willow Zheng who created Chinese watercolors for the film! The screening starts at 8pm.
“A cross-cultural tale of a mother and daughter separated by language and culture, yet bound together for life.” With the 1989 Peabody-winning audio documentary as the soundtrack, Dmae Roberts has created a half-hour film. Mixing original artwork, visual effects and archival footage, “Mei Mei” tells the story of Dmae and her mother as they travel to Taiwan together after a long absence.
This is the 25th anniversary of the radio documentary that originally aired on NPR, BBC, CBC and ABC.
Mei Mei will be shown at the Clinton Street Theater Friday, November 21 at 8pm along with the 10-minute short: ‘Finding Home’ by T. Howard, editor of MEI MEI. A film about a daughter learning of her mother’s painful memories as a Korean War survivor.
