Taiwanese American Book Fair: TaiwaneseAmerican.org at the 2025 Taiwanese American Cultural Festival

This past weekend, we were so pleased to gather nearly a dozen local Taiwanese American authors and illustrators for our largest-yet “Taiwanese American Book Fair” at the 2025 Taiwanese American Cultural Festival in San Francisco’s Union Square, hosted by TAP-SF. This year, we partnered with On Waverly, a new and already-beloved Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) centered shop and creative space located in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Founded in 2023 by sisters Cynthia and Jennifer Huie, On Waverly is dedicated to showcasing the incredible talents of AAPI artists, authors, and makers. Their passion lies in curating a diverse collection of unique products and hosting engaging events that inspire and spark meaningful conversations. It was clear to us from the start that we shared a heart and vision for uplifting our literary and creative community!

Twenty years ago, the Taiwanese American literary catalog was a few precious, hard-won stories contained on a single foldout table. As we were setting up the exhibit, we could not help but marvel at how far we’ve come. Thank you to everyone who holds the door open, who adds another chair, who makes all of those possible for the next and the next and the next.

This exhibit is a love letter to you, our community. We are so grateful.

Furthermore, at a time of unprecedented and horrifying book bans, which have especially impacted marginalized authors, including Taiwanese Americans writers, we felt urgently called to dedicate our space to supporting the availability of diverse voices on our shelves and in our communities. We seek, as part of our broader mission statement, to be a united coalition against attempts to erase our history and silence diverse testimonies to the best and worst of human history. We believe fiercely in the power of literature to create empathy, empower confidence, and build strong intergenerational communities. We believe truthful narratives can restore agency, integrity, and accountability. To everyone in our community and beyond, we proudly reiterate: your stories are welcome here.

You can shop books from our 2025 featured authors here. Our Bookshop fulfills orders from independent bookstores and allows us to earn a small portion of sales as affiliate income, at no additional cost to you.
