Francesca Chang

Ex-Lawyer. Blogger. Life Coach.

I am a former attorney, travel blogger, and life coach based in Taipei, Taiwan.

I took the road less traveled and explored many unconventional careers after passing the Bar, including recruiting, marketing, and even travel blogging in Taiwan (Yes, I get paid to travel!)

In addition to sharing Taiwan’s hidden gems with the world through my blog and YouTube channel, I am also a life coach who inspires people to live their truth. I work with both lawyers and non-lawyers who know that there is more to life than just paychecks, status, and prestige. I broke the rules to live life on my own terms and have found my purpose teaching others how they can do the same.

How does being Taiwanese/Taiwanese American and/or community ally play a role in your life?

Moving back to Taiwan and exploring my roots is what helped me connect to myself and realize who I wanted to be. In Taiwan, I am a blogger, vlogger, and travel writer who travels the entire island. I don’t have to compete in a rat race or define myself with a job title here.

The people here are so open, friendly, and supportive. I feel safe everywhere I go and have been able to dig into the island’s history and culture.

If you could teach future generations 1 thing about being Taiwanese/Taiwanese American or Taiwan, what would it be?

I would like people to appreciate just how resilient the people of Taiwan are. From the indigenous tribes to the Hakka and the Han Chinese, the diverse people of this island have overcome great strife and political instability in just recent years. In fact, many of our parents witnessed it, and yet the people here remain optimistic, open-minded, and hospitable. The 人情味 can be felt all around.

What does the future of Taiwanese America look like?

With the opportunities that our generation has, I see much more collaboration between the motherland and America. Physical borders are no longer an obstruction to communication or learning, and with Taipei’s rising tech scene and the increasing pride in Asian roots I see cross-cultural businesses and opportunities.

Favorite memory of Taiwan/Taiwanese America?

I am privileged in that I now get to call Taiwan AND America home. One of the coolest things I’ve done is promote a sustainable app in Mandarin on local Taiwanese television.

Favorite Taiwanese food?

Stinky tofu!
