SUMMARY:Keep Taiwan Free Rally in NYC
DESCRIPTION:The first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage.\nA thriving youth civil society.\nAn evolving post-colonial national identity. \nTaiwan has much to celebrate. \nBut as we cheer the achievements of Taiwan’s democratic government and civil society\, our celebration is bittersweet. We are appalled by the PRC government’s increasingly aggressive initiatives to discredit Taiwan’s achievements and legitimacy in the global arena. We mourn the loss of diplomatic relations with two more nations this year as a result of political and economic manipulation by the PRC government. \nThis year\, we highlight Taiwan’s achievements alongside Taiwan’s increasing marginalization. We begin this year’s rally at the Consulate General of the Peoples Republic of China\, where allies from various activist communities will join us in condemning the human rights abuses and silencing of activists by the CCP. Then\, we march across Manhattan to the United Nations Plaza\, where we call upon United Nations General Assembly to hold themselves accountable to the standards they claim to uphold. \nAll members and allies of the Taiwanese community are invited to join this year’s UN for Taiwan/ Keep Taiwan Free rally! \nFor over two decades\, the Taiwanese diaspora in America has gathered to advocate for Taiwan’s membership in the United Nations. The rally is held each September to coincide with the UN General Assembly\, promoting awareness and dialogue about Taiwan’s position in the global community.
