TaiwaneseAmerican.org's special correspondent, Esther, recently met up with Sports Host/Anchor of FOX Sports Southwest in Houston's Chinatown to talk about his career path, family, and passions. As one of the very few Asian Americans in the sports broadcasting industry, he is driven to make change in his hometown and through national broadcasts. It all starts with good bowl of Taiwanese beef noodle soup. We are one of the first customers at Star Snow Ice; it opened just minutes ago at 11:00…
TaiwaneseAmerican.org has always been proud to support and represent not only the Taiwanese community, but also the greater Asian American community. With the groundbreaking success of last season’s Fresh Off the Boat, we’re particularly excited for Dr. Ken, a new family sitcom based on the real life of physician-turned-actor Ken Jeong. Recently, I had the privilege of being invited along with fellow bloggers and writers to meet with the cast of Dr. Ken during rehearsals at Sony Pictures…
It's been almost 10 years since TaiwaneseAmerican.org launched online (see above screenshot from the early days!) and grew into what it is today. As we approach 10,000 Facebook followers, we are so grateful to all of you for joining us on this incredible journey. We would also not be here today without the many amazing fellow Taiwanese American and Taiwan-related organizations and sites out there—pursuing their mission with passion and great content.
So on that note—we are building…

By Benjamin Dunn PHOTO CAPTION My journey soon took me from Taipei in the north all the way down to Kenting in the south. After a one and half hour ride on the high speed rail into Zuoying, it was off to see the beauty of Kenting. One slightly bumpy two hour bus ride later, I found myself standing on the southern beaches of Taiwan, where the light ocean breeze carried the fresh scent of sea salt and sounds of crashing waves. I was stunned by how blue the ocean looked since I’ve grown up…

Ahhh yes, Shilin Night Market (士林夜市). Among my friends, it’s probably one of the most frequently recommended destinations for anyone visiting Taipei. And definitely for good reason too. Despite the crowded alleyways that seem like huge labyrinths for people like me unfamiliar with the area, it’s enjoyable to seemingly get lost among the hundreds of stores and vendors that line the market, selling everything from your favorite Taiwanese street food, to…

As we celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, TaiwaneseAmerican.org is pleased to continue with our series of interviews highlighting some accomplished community members who have pursued interesting paths in their professional careers or personal projects. We launched these interviews during Taiwanese American Heritage Week, and we’ve selected these individuals particularly because their stories include how a Taiwanese American community organization has shaped their experience or life…
Throughout my own life, the Taiwanese American community has been synonymous with family. The people around me inherently understood Taiwan’s culture and history; these were so deeply embedded that we could even claim polarizing political differences within our Taiwanese ethnicities. This upbringing was such a privilege; I am grateful to my elders and surrounding friends for fostering this sense of awareness. But I have come to realize that simply identifying as “Taiwanese American” or “Taiwanese”…
