BOARD & STAFF MEMBER BIOS

Godwin Chen is an East Coast Representative. He is working on his Master’s in Public Administration and intends on pursuing his life’s work in the public sector. He has been involved with youth development organizations on the East Coast and in the Midwest (TANG and TAF) in his capacities as program director and counselor. He believes that our community is entering a unique time as we witness the arrival of 3rd generation Taiwanese Americans. In his free time he enjoys discussing the ideas that are reshaping our society, issues facing modern masculinity, and Myers-Brigg Type Indicator in addition to cooking, strength training, and planning overnight trips into the wilderness.

Margaret Chen is a Board Member and our Operations/Logistics Director who ensures that things run smoothly around here. She has previously served as Vice Chair of the 2003 ITASA East Coast Conference and Program Director of the Taiwanese American Foundation’s college program. Margaret received her BA in Political Science and Economics from Barnard College. She is currently pursuing her law degree at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law. When she’s not studying, you may catch her enjoying her evening ice cream or cooking up a mean meal.

Christina Chou* is our Executive Director. She is currently a Project Manager at Plan C Group, a Los Angeles based company which has been heavily instrumental in establishing Asian American and Asian talent in media, events, music, and other media. Christina is a graduate from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a double degree in Economics and Political Science. She also served as the President of the UIUC Taiwanese American Students Club (TASC), Youth Counselor for the Taiwanese American Foundation, and Conference Co-Director for the 2009 ITASA Midwest Conference “Illuminate”. Christina loves building bridges between people and when she’s not running around LA supporting the community, she’s hiking trails, people-watching, scribbling in a moleskine, drinking coffee, and on a never-ending quest for more adventures!

Wil Chung is a Board Member and our Technical Advisor. He currently is building a startup in the San Francisco Bay Area. He graduated UIUC for Electrical Engineering and then JHU for a MS in Computer Science. He attended Taiwanese American Foundation (TAF) and Taiwanese American Next Generation (TANG) summer camps, and then became increasingly involved in their leadership roles from JH Counselor to Young Professionals Program Director. He was one of our first TaiwaneseAmerican.org bloggers and helped design some of our t-shirts. In his spare time, he’s building a 3D printer, learning other programming languages, and enjoys eating at ramen bars.

Jessica Fu is an East Coast Representative. She currently lives in New York City. She takes advantage of living in New York by eating cheap and delicious food, shopping till she drops, and visiting museums. She has a particular weakness for oversized bags, strappy shoes, and cute dresses. Jessica graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with BA in Political Science and Sociology. During her time there, Jessica was very active in the Taiwanese community, serving as President of the Taiwanese American Students Club and as Midwest Governor for the Intercollegiate Taiwanese American Students Association. Jessica presently serves as a Program Director for the Taiwanese American Foundation and is a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She is currently in the middle of changing careers.

Nicholas C. Huang, JD* is a Board Member and our Legal Counsel. He is an Indianapolis attorney who graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA degree in Economics. Thereafter, he obtained his Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University School of Law. He has a broad range of experience in business and corporate transactions, real estate, employment, personal injury, estate planning and administration, criminal defense, and family law. Nick provides negotiation and litigation representation at the federal and state level, and counsels and advises on corporate governance concerns, director and officer responsibilities, tax liability, and general business planning.

Amy Lee is our Outreach Director. She was the co-founder and former president for the Taiwanese American Organization (TAO) at UC Irvine. She was also involved with the ITASA 2009 West Coast Conference and the TACL Leadership Identity Development Summer camp program in southern California. Having grown up in three different countries, she enjoys traveling the world and sitting in random cafes watching people go by. If you’ve got wanderlust, you might run into her someday.

Jon Lee* is our Media & Production Director and West Coast Regional Representative. He is currently an Associate Producer at Formosa Films, where he helped make the film Formosa Betrayed. Before landing in Los Angeles, Jon graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Media Studies. He held positions in various Taiwanese American organizations throughout college, namely as a Program Director for the Taiwanese American Foundation, and as the Programming Chair for the 2006 ITASA Midwest Conference held at UIUC. In his spare time away from movies and media, he enjoys taking advantage of Southern California’s weather and playing sports.

Grace Liang is our Administrative Director. She is an avid organizer (and knitter!) and keeps us in order and on time. In her other life, she is a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology with a BS degree in Industrial Engineering. While at GT, she was an officer of the Taiwanese American Student Association and also on the executive board of Alpha Delta Chi’s Sigma Chapter. She loves mentoring kids and could be a one-woman band with her voice, piano, and guitar talents. In her free time, she looks for ways to get back to Taiwan.

Erica Ling is our Public Relations Director. She is currently a first year law student at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. Erica graduated from UC San Diego with a degree in International Studies and concentrations in Political Science and Sociology. She was the Vice President of TASA at UCSD, a 2008 Formosa Foundation Ambassador, a 2009 TACL Political intern for Senator Barbara Boxer, a Co-Director for the ITASA 2010 West Coast Conference, and a national officer-at-large for TACL. When she isn’t busy studying, Erica enjoys exploring LA, trying new restaurants, indulging in retail therapy, attending community events, and spending time with friends.

Jessica Shen is our Midwest/Central Region Representative and a Senior Contributor. She is a tree-loving girl who, as a small child, volunteered regularly at the Taiwanese booth of St. Louis-area international festivals. She likes American football, Spanish empanadas, Russian composers, Taiwanese food, Brazilian capoeira, the Roman Empire, and the Greece-originating marathon.

Ho Chie Tsai* is a founding Board Member who also wears many hats in the Taiwanese American community. As a frequent speaker on the collegiate conference circuit and youth summer camp programs, a past Program Director and current Board Member of the Taiwanese American Foundation, and a founder of the Taiwanese American Professionals chapter in San Francisco, he hopes to inspire a renewed sense of pride in personal identity and to increase activism and involvement within the greater Asian American community. Ho Chie holds an Electrical Engineering BS degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a Bioengineering MS and an MD degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. In his spare time, he works as a pediatrician.

Elizabeth Wang* is our Communications Director. She received her BA in Mathematics and French from Wellesley College. She is currently the Program Director of the Taiwanese American Foundation’s juniors program. She loves to bake and hopes to own her own cafe bakery one day. Also in her spare time, Liz enjoys knitting, playing mahjong, singing Glee songs, cycling, and rock climbing.

Anna Wu* is our Managing Editor and Creative Director. She graduated from Duke University with a self-designed major in Asian American Studies and Documentary studies. Her senior year, she obtained several grants to hang out in California and Taiwan and create a documentary film titled “Daiwan-lang: Taiwanese/American Identity”. Now she’s living the dream out in San Francisco, owning and operating her very own wedding photography business, Anna Wu Photography. She also loves jetting around and exploring the world!

Justin Yang is a Senior Contributor. He is a first-year student at Columbia University working towards a BA in Economics and a special concentration in Sustainable Development. He has lived in Oklahoma and Texas and currently resides in Toledo, Ohio. He enjoys listening to hip hop and cheering for his favorite basketball team, the Houston Rockets.
