The theme for this year’s Taiwanese American Citizens’ League (TACL) Leadership Identity Development (LID) Camp is “Perspectives.” This cultural summer camp is designed for students ages 12-18, focusing on the leadership development of Asian Americans and communication skills. LID Camp counselors lead students through five days of cultural workshops, team-building activities, and educational games. Relaunched in 2009, LID camp has grown in size and scope with awesome workshops, speakers, and activities.

This year features a truly challenging ropes course that will definitely push everyone to new limits. In addition, licensed psychologist Dr. Michi Fu, Scripps College Admissions Counselor Connie Wu and Inspirational Speaker Justine Fan will be leading sessions on how proper communication affects perspectives. We often forget to recognize our own strengths, and the goal of camp is to help students discover individual talents. By learning to appreciate all challenges as opportunities, students will develop a positive, capable attitude towards their dreams.

The Taiwanese American Citizens’ League “Leader Identity Development” (TACL-LID) camp has a storied past. It began in the 1980’s as a way for 1st generation to connect with 2nd generation Taiwanese Americans. The camp has since transformed into one focused on youth to instill a sense of leadership, identity, and community. With a core group of college counselors, campers are transported away from home to various campgrounds each summer and winter. There, they participate in team-building activities and cultural workshops such as rope courses, learning to speak Taiwanese, and how to deal with the various pressures of adolescence.

At the very core of this camp is community. Every activity is separated by big group or small group, which the counselors will lead. Don’t miss out on this fun and exciting time at camp!
