Join Taiwanese American Professionals in Chicago, DePaul Taiwanese Student Association (TWSA), and Taiwanese Junior Chamber of Commerce (TJCCC) for an awesome zongzi wrapping party to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival and have homemade zongzi together for dinner! For your entertainment, we’ll have icebreakers, fun games, and an after party at a location TBA. Our party will be at a beautiful 41st story rooftop with an amazing outdoor patio and sweeping views of the lake and Navy Pier.
Zongzi aka ba-zhang, is a traditional Taiwanese food, made with sticky rice stuffed with various fillings (sweet/salty) and wrapped in bamboo leaves. They are traditionally eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls in late-May to mid-June, to commemorate the death of the poet Qu Yuan. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to make zongzi! We will have trained mentors to teach you the steps! All ingredients will be prepared beforehand, and will be ready for wrapping.
There are two kinds of zongzi we will be wrapping:
1) The meat zongzi – including fillings like braised pork, peanut, mushroom, and optional egg yolk
2) The sweet zongzi – including red bean paste
The last day for early bird tickets is Thursday, June 7th, 2012 by noon. Advance payment is required so we can buy the right amount of food, booze, etc! Please register using Wepay: https://www.wepay.com/events/bazhangwrapping
