Have you ever heard of the phrase “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”? Of course you have, and that is what the Taiwanese American Next Generation (TANG) summer camp theme of Follow me! this year is all about. Over the course of four days, we will explore your unique brand of leadership, how to recognize opportunities to build your leadership style, and in the meantime make new friends in a fun and comfortable environment. You’ll be surprised by how many great memories can be made in the span of a weekend – see you soon!
MISSION:
Our goal is to help young Taiwanese Americans – ranging from young professionals to young students – become their truest, most brilliant selves by connecting them with the rich experiences of other members in our community. We may all be different, but there is an inherent common bond between people who share the same cultural background in a similar environment. Together, we understand some things that our parents or friends might not. And we might also learn some new things about ourselves along the way. What does it mean to be Taiwanese American? And why is it so important? Join us and find out.
PROGRAMS:
Juniors
Children represent the future. From an early age, their surroundings and relationships play a critical role of who they will become and aspire to be. The Junior Program offers a nurturing environment where both learning and fun are emphasized. They will begin to discover what it means to be a Taiwanese American but more importantly will be challenged to be the best person they can be. Our role isn’t so much to educate as it is to is inspire the younger generation to take part in their communities, whether at schools with friends, or at home with family, by revealing their hidden potential, talents, ideas for improving the future.
Junior High
It is often said that our experiences through life shape our personalities as we grow. At the same time, we are also influenced by our origins. In the Junior High Program, we will be examining our heritage as Taiwanese Americans, as well as discovering how it has influenced our lives as American citizens. Throughout the course of TANG, we will be challenging the campers to make an in depth examination of themselves with questions such as: What defines us as Americans? How does our origin as Taiwanese Americans affect this identity? Through thought provoking questions, and workshops we will be holding during TANG, we hope that campers will gain knowledge that will help them lay a foundation for their future growth, as well as establish a strong rapport with peers they can identify with.

College / Young Professionals
TANG’s College/Young Professional program is intended to bring Taiwanese-American young adults together in community to share knowledge and resources, and to grow together and support each other in today’s world. The theme of TANG this year is Leadership, and one of the main ways the CYP program will explore the theme of leadership is through “The Idea.” Across a series of 4 workshops, CYP participants will brainstorm a business idea, develop a business plan, and walk together through all the aspects involved with successfully beginning a startup company. In the midst of the process, we will explore what it means to be a good leader, and to develop some of the necessary skills to be a good leader.
