In 2002, spurred by the shuttering of “a.Magazine,” a small group of 20-and-30-something journalists and artists got together to fill the void by envisioning the kind of magazine we always wanted to read: a publication that would go beyond celebrity interviews and essays about discovering our roots, which we found a long time ago, thank-you-very-much.

Ten years later, Hyphen magazine continues to fill that void as one of the premier indie ‘zines dedicated to telling the untold stories of Asian America with substance, sass, and flair. An all-volunteer nonprofit headquartered in San Francisco, Hyphen is distributed in print nationally and in Canada with an estimated domestic readership of over 10,000 per issue and an online readership of 50,000 unique visitors per month. Bragging rights most recently include the 2011 APA Heritage Month Award for Community Impact, and notably 2006 Best Cover by The Independent Press Association (pictured above).

Come join us for a memorable evening talking about the balance between journalism and the arts, non-profits, and business-savvy with the editors and founders of this influential Asian American magazine.
